Development Engineer (Combustion)

The UK & ROI Division has several market leading brands including the household name Ideal Heating who manufacture in excess of 400,000 boilers per year. Recent activity has seen a drive to support its increasing focus on new and sustainable heating technologies.
Opportunity
Due to continued growth and demand for product development we are looking to speak to Development Engineers who are experienced in the delivery of product development from initial business sign off through to manufacture to join Groupe Atlantic UK, ROI & North America. This role will work as part of a multi-discipline R&D team to complete R&D activities on both new and existing project ranges.
Responsibilities include:
- Working collaboratively with development engineers on all projects.
- Specifying, sourcing and generating capital expenditure for ordering new equipment for new development projects.
- Ensuring all test equipment in development labs are in tolerance and calibrated to National Standards. (Checked by internal Quality Audit and BSI)
- Ensuring all equipment in development labs are annually calibrated.
- Installing new equipment as required.
- Having working knowledge of data acquisition.
- Having working knowledge of specification and construction of test panels to control 240V and 24V equipment.
- Repairing or arrange external repair of faulty equipment.
- Understanding / calculating accuracies and uncertainties for calibration.
- Maintaining up to date calibration system to comply with British Standards, comprising of over 1250 pieces of equipment.
- Maintaining accurate history of calibrated equipment.
- Producing / obtaining calibration certificates.
- Developing and maintaining constructive relationships with colleagues.
Person
- Should have an HNC/Degree in an Engineering related discipline
- Knowledge and experience of working with combustion products is desirable
- Have the knowledge and understanding of engineering principles in relevant technology and competence centre fields to fulfil the requirement of the role.
- They should have a strong background in product development and / or continuous improvement in a technical/engineering discipline
- Flexible and robust with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Comfortable with decision making
- Able to perform well whilst working under pressure and to strict deadlines
- Logically minded with the ability to analyse and evaluate information quickly and accurately
- Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills, and implementation of solutions.
- Team player with excellent communication and networking skills with strong drive and self-motivation.
- Plumbing, engineering skills to enable construction and operation of a simple gas appliance test rig
